Overview

The field of speech-language pathology has known for some time that outcomes are improved for adults with chronic aphasia when the therapy is intensive in nature. The research typically defines intensive therapy as 9 or more hours per week. At the University of Michigan Aphasia Program (UMAP) we know that a combination of individual and group therapy delivered on an intensive schedule that targets multi-modal forms of communication including training with assistive software, along with  caregiver education seminars and our Caregiver Coping and Caring support group, creates an environment of success for our clients with chronic aphasia. At UMAP, we have designed a 30-hour intensive therapy program for you.

Beginning in January 2011 UMAP is building on what the research says, our clinical experience, and feedback from our clients to maximize the therapeutic experience for clients and their families. Sessions will coincide with each month of the year. Clients can opt for additional weeks.
