For aphasia caregivers
Education and support empower individuals who have a relative or
friend with aphasia. Caregivers need to be advocates for their
loved ones. They can help provide encouragement and motivation to
help people with aphasia continue on their road of recovery.
The University of Michigan Aphasia Program (UMAP) developed a
comprehensive education and support program for caregivers while
their relatives and friends are participating in six weeks of
intensive therapy. Caregivers meet formally for an hour once a week
to learn about aphasia, share ideas, and discuss ways to help
continue the momentum of the program when their loved ones return
